Historical and present waterworks in Friedrichshagen

When brought on line in 1893, the Friedrichshagen waterworks were the most modern and largest waterworks in Europe. While pumping lake water at that time, their modern counterpart nowadays provides tap water for a large part of Berlin from groundwater and bank filtration.

The half-day excursion includes a visit of the historical waterworks museum, including a demonstration of the original 1893 steam pumps, a guided walk across the 55 hectare historical waterworks area with its sand filters, and a tour of the current waterworks.

The excursion will be completed by a dinner in a local restaurant.
