Dear FEFLOW
User, Since our last
newsletter some time has passed, so that today we have are happy to report on
a number of topics. The key event for
the entire FEFLOW team this year clearly was the 2nd International
FEFLOW User Conference. More than 120 participants have come together
in Potsdam/Germany to present and discuss interesting FEFLOW applications on
occasion of the 30th birthday of FEFLOW and to be trained in basic
or advanced FEFLOW modeling. Please find more detailed information about the
conference below. As a particular
conference highlight, the next generation of FEFLOW – FEFLOW 6 – was presented to the public for the first time by our
development team. The completely new user interface was explained in power
point presentations and extensive live demonstrations. Please refer to the FEFLOW 6 Beta
Test section for detailed information on how
to become a beta tester. We would be happy to also get your feedback on the
new version before the final release! Free online seminars in
both English and German language are available that introduce the new FEFLOW
user interface. To assist in the
pre-processing for FEFLOW models for our clients, DHI-WASY offers the
conceptual modeling software Hydro GeoBuilder
developed by Schlumberger Water Services. African culture and
lifestyle was experienced by our colleagues attending the Mine Water
Conference in Pretoria/South Africa. Besides the
usual technical presentations and an exhibition area, this conference even
featured a drumming session (see images below). To
support the launch of FEFLOW 6, for the first time a regional Australian and
New Zealand FEFLOW user conference will take place
in Sydney in May. All our users down under are invited to participate and
present their FEFLOW projects. The
FEFLOW Forum is a busy place for discussion of all applications of FEFLOW.
Now we have made it even more convenient to follow the discussions by adding RSS and Twitter
support – never miss a forum post anymore! At the
end of this newsletter, we have listed upcoming training courses and
the latest FEFLOW
patches as usual. Your

2nd International FEFLOW User Conference This
year’s FEFLOW conference attracted more than 120 participants from all over
the world. For three days, various kinds of FEFLOW applications and theoretical
aspects of modeling fluid flow, solute and heat transport in porous media
were discussed. Pre- and postconference courses proficed opportunity for
basic and advanced FEFLOW training. Outside
the official conference program, the conference venue Inselhotel
Hermannswerder and the city of Potsdam provided perfect scenery for informal
meetings and sightseeing. Many
thanks to the keynote lecturers and presenters - it was you in particular who
made the conference a successful event. We would also like to thank all the
participants for coming and hope that you have enjoyed the conference as much
as we have! Please

International Mine Water Conference This
year the International Mine Water Conference took
place in Pretoria, South Africa from 19 to 23 October. DHI-WASY participated
in the exhibition with a booth and presented results of an ongoing research project
concerning the handling of damages due to historical potassium mining in east
Germany. As expected there was a lot of interest in the application of FEFLOW
for different aspects of mining, especially dewatering. Approximately 350
participants attended the conference. Also DHI colleagues from South-Africa
and the Czech Republic participated in the conference. South-Africa and the
neighboring countries are expected to have an increasing importance for
future developments in the mining business, but also in the areas of
groundwater protection and remediation. A
special highlight was the interactive drumming session, see pictures below.

Probably
many of you have already used the option to be notified by email about new
topics in specific boards of the FEFLOW discussion forum, e.g., to be
automatically informed when information about the latest FEFLOW patch is
posted by DHI-WASY. For all of you who use RSS News Feeds or Twitter, we have
made the process even more convenient: RSS: As the
simplest example, the latest message in the entire forum can be subscribed by
using the address http://www.feflow.info/forum/index.php?action=.xml;sa=recent;limit=1;type=rss2. Most
of the numerous additional options for the RSS feed are described in a forum
topic on http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=25009.msg198119. Potentially
interesting options include the limitation of the news feed to a certain
number of messages or to messages on a certain board. Twitter: New
forum message topics and links to the messages themselves are published on
the FEFLOW twitter account: www.twitter.com/feflow. The
twitter account is updated every half hour. |
